How to Stop Hair Loss Through Ayurveda

How to Stop Hair Loss Through Ayurveda

Ayurveda, said to be the oldest form of medicine, is used to treat many disorders from baldness to osteoporosis. Its principles state that a body's health depends on the 3 doshas: "Pitta," "Vata" and "Kapha." Hair loss is believed to be caused by an excessive "Pitta dosha" in the body. It's believed that balancing the Pitta dosha through such Ayurvedic techniques like diet, oil massage and yoga, can stop hair loss. Follow these steps to find out how.

Look to Ayurveda for a New Diet

1

Consider changing your diet. An Ayurvdedic diet focuses on balancing all the doshas, including the "Pitta dosha," which is responsible for hair loss.

2

Check for your dosha. Knowing your dosha is the first step in switching to an Ayurvedic diet. Take a free dosha quiz at the "What's Your Dosha?" Web site (see Resources below).

3

Learn more about your dosha at the end of the quiz. Find out how to keep it in balance.

4

Find out what foods will help to reduce the "Pitta dosha" in order to stop hair loss.

5

Plan a diet that includes the foods that fit your unique dosha as well as the foods that control the "Pitta dosha."

6

Consider drinking 1/3 cup of aloe vera juice daily to further reduce Pitta.

7

Eat a small amount of white sesame seeds daily to add more calcium and magnesium to the body. Calcium and magnesium help strengthen your hair follicles.

Try an Oil Massage

1

Rub coconut oil on your scalp and the soles of your feet every night. The rubbing motion stimulates blood circulation, which is especially good for the hair follicles.

2

Try vitamin E oil on the hair. It also strengthens the hair follicles and reduces hair loss.

3

Massage Brahmi or Bhringaraj oil into the scalp for at least 5 minutes daily to improve circulation.

4

Expect to pay low to moderate prices for the oils.

Take up Yoga

1

Consider taking up yoga. Select from the many different versions. All of the yoga poses help to improve blood circulation and contribute to the relief of stress from the head.

2

Improve blood circulation to the hair follicles by holding a headstand yoga pose for a few minutes.

3

Try other yoga poses like the "downward facing
dog
," "standing forward bend," "camel pose" and "shoulder stand." These poses all help to relieve stress in the neck area, which also helps to improve the flow of blood to the head.

4

Find more remedies for hair loss through the Ayurveda Herbal Remedy Web site (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

See a doctor if your hair is falling out in clumps. Rapid hair loss like this could be a symptom of a disease.

Before you start any alternative medical technique, be aware that many have not been scientifically evaluated. Keep your doctor informed about anything new you undertake.

How to Start a Physical Therapy Business

How to Start a Physical Therapy Business

As an entrepreneur and physical therapist, perhaps you've considered starting a physical therapy business. Most physical therapy businesses administer treatment and training to those who are suffering from physical injuries or debilitation. There are some key ingredients to getting off to a good start, though. The hard work you put into the research can pay off over time as your business grows into a success. Follow these steps to find out more.

Things You'll Need:

Computer with Internet access

Evaluate Your Motivation for Starting a Business

1

Know that giving up a boss in the traditional sense only gets replaced by your new pool of bosses should you go out on your own. Employees and customers, in a sense, determine your hours and schedule.

2

Prepare to work long hours until your business is prosperous. When the time comes to add an additional therapist, only then will you have the benefit of shared responsibility.

3

Consult the "American Physical Therapy Association" Web site to learn more about physical therapy businesses and their practitioners (see Resources below).

Plan to Make Your Physical Therapy Business a Success by Developing a Team

1

Develop a strong business plan and have another successful entrepreneur look it over.

2

Retain legal counsel, perhaps on a limited contractual basis, to look over important business paperwork. Double-check the language written on all patient care forms to ensure compliance with regulations and care standards.

3

Hire a billing coordinator from the start. Having a trained person in this role will help eliminate improper billing for insurance claims and allow you to focus on other necessary tasks.

4

Choose a location. If your business will based out of your home, be sure to look into additional homeowner's insurance coverage.

5

Choose a name for your business and incorporate it. By becoming a corporation or an LLC, you can shield your personal assets from liability.

6

Begin a marketing campaign. Whether you want to take out television ads or simply a yellow pages listing, your marketing will be a key aspect of your eventual success.

Tips & Warnings

Trust that you can make your business a success and stick with it. Many businesses don't become profitable for 18 to 24 months.

Have a solid financial plan in the event some unexpected costs surface. Starting a business is typically an expensive prospect. You may want to seek out third-party financing.

Physical therapy isn't meant to treat emergency situations. If you experience severe vomiting or blurred vision, call your doctor or go to your local hospital.

How to Start a Holistic Medicine Practice

Holistic medicine, which takes into account an individual's entire being and circumstances as opposed to focusing only on the physical aspects of health, is an expanding industry. More and more people are turning to holistic medicine to treat diseases and conditions ranging from anxiety to chronic pain. Follow these steps to start your own holistic medicine practice by learning about the many aspects of holistic medicine and by choosing the treatments and practices that are of deep interest to you.

Things You'll Need:

Permits

Insurance

Space to conduct practice

Computer with Internet access

Licensing

Money to start your business

Open Your Own Holistic Practice

1

Research multiple therapies to choose your line of practice. Holistic medicine can encompass conventional medicine as well as alternative therapies ranging from acupuncture to meditation to reiki. Start your research with Shaun Brown's "How To Create A Successful Holistic Practice" (see Resources below).

2

Contact your local city hall for business licenses and permits; or, let a company like Business Licenses, LLC do the legwork for you (see Resources below).

3

Get certified by the American Board of Holistic Medicine (see Resources below). In order to be certified by the board, you must have either an MD degree or DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree. Certification requires that you pass an exam, which is typically administered at least once per year.

4

Decide whether you want to be affiliated with a hospital or other medical facility or whether you'd rather be a sole practitioner. Some holistic medicine practitioners maintain home-based businesses, or visit patients on house calls.

5

Incorporate the sale of herbal supplements, vitamins, or other products relevant to your area of practice. As a holistic medicine practitioner, you should be open to all avenues of healing, whether they're based on conventional medicine or on alternative techniques ranging from ayurveda to tai chi. Learn more about tai chi at MayoClinic.com (see Resources below).

6

Advertise your holistic medicine practice. Leave your information at local health stores. Post flyers at wellness spas or gyms. Network with physicians and alternative medicine practitioners who may refer patients to you.

7

Get listed with the American Holistic Medical Association (see Resources below). As the main professional organization for holistic medicine, the Association has a searchable database of certified practitioners around the country that's available to the public.

8

Create a Web site. Update it regularly. Use it to inform your clients about upcoming events, special classes, and the philosophy of your practice.

Tips & Warnings

Starting your own practice can be expensive. Lower the initial cost by starting a business from home and using less expensive marketing tools, like email lists and flyers.

Have insurance to cover your business. Protect yourself from lawsuits.

Keep your practice location up to code. Comply with regulations to avoid accidents.

Don't use alternative medicine for urgent, life-threatening conditions like heart attacks, strokes or serious injuries. Patients with severe conditions should call a doctor or visit an emergency room immediately. Encourage your patients to keep their primary physician informed about the holistic medical technique they undertake with you.

How to Shop for Physical Therapy Products

How to Shop for Physical Therapy Products

At-home physical therapy can be a good alternative to costly treatments. However, knowing the proper techniques is key to preventing additional injury. Seek the advice of a medical professional before beginning an in-home program. Some medical plans or health reimbursement programs may cover some of the equipment you'll need. Otherwise, physical therapy products can range from moderate to expensive in cost. Follow these steps to learn how to shop for them.

Things You'll Need:

Computer with Internet access

Find Stores That Carry Physical Therapy Supplies

1

Go to your local sporting goods store to shop for physical therapy products. Often, they carry resistance bands and exercise balls. These are important to the stretching components of physical therapy.

2

Consider buying ambulatory aides such as crutches or canes online to receive better prices. Factor in shipping charges before making your purchase.

3

Research adaptive products to enhance the performance of your therapy aides. For example, you may be able to find accessories for walkers at online specialty retailers.

Shop for Commercial Grade Physical Therapy Products

1

Expect to pay more for commercial grade products. However, the warranties that come with quality products will provide recourse should the equipment break.

2

Avoid leasing equipment that can be purchased for reasonable prices. Leasing terms often add costs that are significantly more than you would have paid without financing.

3

Stay away from second-hand equipment if you're buying equipment for your office. Not knowing how the equipment was used prior to receiving it may put the liability on you if it malfunctions.

4

Buy in bulk to receive better pricing. Routinely used items like bandages and ice packs can be purchased in bulk and stored in the office for future patients.

Check Online for Physical Therapy Products

1

Know that online retailers provide pictures and descriptions of products. You'll be able to research and compare products before bringing them home.

2

Ask about return policies before you shop online. If you change your mind, you may be responsible for paying return shipping costs.

3

Go to the "Physical Therapy Association" Web site to learn more about the types of products used in physical therapy programs (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

Check with your health plan to see if purchases of physical therapy equipment are a covered expense.

Inventory at online stores often changes. You may not always have a large selection available at a discount.

Go to your emergency room if you experience chest pains or feel dizzy. Physical therapy shouldn't be used to treat emergencies.

How to Give a Shoulder Rub

How to Give a Shoulder Rub

Next time you decide to rub a friend's shoulder muscles, try this simple massage technique instead. You don't need anything special to do a shoulder massage, and it can offer a great amount of stress relief. All you need is a straight-back chair and a couple of pillows.

1

Ask your friend to straddle the chair and face the back. Place the pillows in such a way that they pad his stomach and chest and give some support to his chin.

2

Start by resting your hands gently on the upper-middle portion of the back and then move them slowly to the triangle-shaped muscle on the side of the neck (trapezius muscle). Use a gentle squeezing motion, and with both hands moving in unison, work your way down to the end of the shoulder. Gradually increase the intensity of the massage but keep it comfortable and relaxing, repeating the series of movements three times. End with your hands at the base of the neck above the trapezius muscle.

3

Continue on the same side, and without disrupting the rhythm of the massage, place one hand on top of the other with your fingers lined up on top of each other. With your arms extended, position the bottom fingers at the base of the neck and start making small circles with your fingers. As you work your way along the top of the trapezius, gradually increase the pressure of the massage until you reach the end of the shoulder. Repeat this three times before you move to the other side.

4

Finish the massage with light strokes which start at the neck and go down the back, gradually softening your touch and finally removing your hands. Your hands should remain in contact with the body until the last stroke is finished. The massage is a continuous, fluid movement from beginning to end.

Tips & Warnings

A massage should not be painful.

Avoid massaging over a bony prominence because it's irritating to the skin and can cause pain.

How to Wear a Short Skirt

How to Wear a Short Skirt

If you are in the market for a new short skirt, you may also be in need of some advice on how to wear it and make it work. No matter how young or how old you are, with a little effort you can find a style that will suit you right. Read on to learn how to wear a short skirt.

Things You'll Need:

Short skirt

Tights

Leggings

Flats

Sweater

Mirror

Step
1

Select skirts that are appropriate for your age and your lifestyle.

Step
2

Keep in mind that while young girls can carry off very short and junior styles, professionals and older woman should avoid revealing too much thigh.

Step
3

Invest in well-cut skirts in good fabrics. Just because a skirt is short doesn't mean it should look cheap.

Step
4

Opt for very classic accessories and shoes to counter the trendy length of the skirt.

Step
5

Wear dark opaque tights or leggings for a sleek effect.

Step
6

Pair short skirts with pointy patent leather flats. This will give a classy, well-dressed effect.

Step
7

Check out your rear view to be sure you are covered from all angles.

Step
8

Make sure the skirt fits smoothly on your hips and rear end.

Step
9

Try on different fabrics and cuts to see what works best with your figure.

Step
10

Experiment with where the skirt ends to find the most flattering length.

Tips & Warnings

Bring a longer skirt to the tailor and have it shortened to exactly the right place.

Remember that a tasteful short wool skirt worn with a blouse or a sweater will be appropriate for most occasions.

Realize that there are some body types that just don't look good in a short skirt. Don't wear this style if it doesn't fit you right.

Avoid mini skirts that are too cutesy if you are in your twenties or older.

How to Wear a Short Dress

How to Wear a Short Dress

Short dresses are all the rage. Slip into one that suits your figure and your taste. Short dresses can work in a variety of situations, from dinner out to parties to casual days.

Things You'll Need:

Short dress

Long sleeve T-shirt

Leggings

Black tights

Heels

Flats

Jeans

Step
1

Look for short dresses that are well made. When it comes to this style, you want to select fabrics that have a nice drape and seams that are neat and reinforced, so you don't look too young or give the impression of the outfit being cheap.

Step
2

Pair short

sweater

dresses with tights or leggings for days. This is a cute and stylish look that will be comfortable, too.

Step
3

Find strappy cocktail dresses to wear for formal occasions. With black opaque tights or bare legs and high heels, you will look great. Or, swap your heels for embellished flats for a different but equally fresh take.

Step
4

Take a lesson from the 60s when short dresses were key, but look for modern updates, such as contrasting stitches, big pockets and big prints or geometric patterns for an effect that is very today.

Step
5

Get the most for your money by selecting short dresses that can be worn multiple ways. For instance, a heavier knit sun dress can work with a turtleneck or long-T underneath and a short T-short dress or tunic transforms into a long top when paired with jeans.

Step
6

Think age appropriate.
Teens
and 20-somethings can get away with much shorter, trendier styles, while woman closer to middle age and above should look for short cuts with very classic lines.

Step
7

Take a lesson from the runways. Avoid skin tight short dresses and go for styles that have more of a modern A-line shape.

Step
8

Reinvent something from your own closet by having to cut to the length you desire. A sheath dress that comes to the knee can be quickly transformed by shortening it to the middle of your thigh. This is an easy way to get up-to-date without spending a fortune.

Tips & Warnings

Wear a short dress to a wedding or formal event for a fresh approach to dressing up. Pair it with dark hose and heels to make your legs look a mile long.

Select styles that flatter your frame. Just because mid-thigh might be in, this may not be your best length. Let your body type, not fashion, dictate your choices so you are sure to look great.

Beware of dresses that are so short you show more than you intend when you move around. Always check your rear view in the mirror before leaving the house and don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion if you aren't sure you have it all covered up appropriately.
